"You cannot miss what you never had." Hmmm...

  1. I see quotation marks ..... So don't have a clue how to respond

  2. The quotation marks mean someone, not me, said that. Do you agree, Wolfie?

  3. I think you can miss what you never had ... i didn't have a dad growing up.. not that i missed 'the man'... but i missed what i thought i didn't have... does that make sense? lol maybe not....

  4. It makes perfect sense to me! And I have to agree with you on this! the only way I can see you not missing something you never had is if there is no emotional attachment to the thing/person/whatever. if THAT makes sense...

  5. Nope I don't agree ..... But can't top surrender's response

  7. i can relate to that side of it too.. because for a long time i didn't know my dad.. i had never talked to him.. and i have meet him twice in 43 years, so not exactly an attachment there.. just a sadness of what could have been...

  8. That's the emotion, overall, isn't it, in situations like these?

  9. Well..its more that you can't know it IS. I long for things because I know they are there and sound/look amazing, therefor, I want that....

  10. 'Had'..v. 1.Possess, own, or hold. Past tense of have.
    'Miss" verb (used with object)
    1. to fail to hit or strike: to miss a target.
    2. to fail to encounter, meet, catch, etc.: to miss a train.
    3. to fail to take advantage of: to miss a chance.

Betcha I could manage to miss what I never had. It's a gift. ;)

  11. remember this ?

    how do you say goodbye

    to something that never existed

it's like giving up a craving

    to something better resisted

how can you hope to be heard

    when one never really conversed

it's like asking a former partner to dance

to a waltz you'd never rehearsed

how do you hide from the pain

when you know it is just for the best

it's like losing your only umbrella
in a world of unrelenting rain

    how do you miss something

    that you never really had

an empty feeling in the pit of your stomach

no pain involved, hurts just as bad

how do you go through the motions

    day in and day out

    a screaming silence,

    nobody to hear you shout

how do you get over the feeling of gentle sadness

    of pinning your hopes

    moments of madness

    on somebody undeserving

    its like your prince charming

    played a game

    promised to but never came..........

  15. Really. Don't think I missed much. I have the respect of my peers. I found true love twice. I have two great kids. I can pay my bills. I've been to many places and experienced many adventures, I have four going on five degrees, I've discovered brand new fossil species, I've so many interests being bored is impossible. What is there to miss?

  16. I learned one thing. You don't sit there and stagnate. You move your ass and put your pains behind you.

  17. For you, apparently nothing, Steve.

  18. I like you Kae so I hope I have not left a bitter taste in your mouth. I controlled a number of variables that made for success, but the rest was luck. I do miss things that might have been and I regret mistakes made, especially where others were involved. But I can't do anything about that. I still have to wait five or ten years to find out if I really survived cancer. That's life.

  19. And I'm sure you won't miss a second of those years, because you will have had those things that fulfill you.

You haven't left a bitter taste in my mouth.

  20. I'm glad...though In a little while you might change your mind. I'll try to fill those years with new things. Never too late you know.

  21. I think you can........
I never had a lot of money, but I sure would miss out to have an easier time
    getting the kids to college...........

I can't always travel which I think would be a wonderful thing, so my kids miss out on
    seeing more of the world....

I think there are something's you wish you could have and might miss out on.
