Is it me, or is there a delicate and telling irony inherent in the fact that so many folk, in their effort to show the depth of their indifference to and even disgust for Whitney Houston because she had a troubled life, post items on the subject at her death? Seems like a memorial to me, albeit a less than stellar one. Of course, given her notoriety, even THAT is as good as any other kind of memorial. Fortunately for her, if not for those who loved her, words really no longer can hurt her!

arghh..its always amazing to me how little empathy there is at times, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but the negativity is sad..

For me I am kinda indifferent not because of her troubled life.. but because of the fact I wasn't a fan of her's. I think it is sad she died so young.

Quite frankly, it's only after she died and the blogosphere lit up like a Christmas tree that I even remembered her existence.

I agree, and I agree!

hey kae... quick one here (cuz it's grammy time!)....

so, just one phrase 'hell with the haters'...

now, back to grammies let's go!

(hugs)

follow up thought.. (cuz there's just some yappin with fans of some pop group right now)... like i said on my quick note, the beginning intro-tribute was heartfelt and beautiful... and i'm just waiting on jennifer hudson's songs to whitney and don't see how i won't be moved again...

yes a troubled life and all that blah blah shut up already blah... go ahead, smartasses, judgemental jackoffs... show your pseudo-superiority cuz you didn't get strung out on drugs...

blah blah to the judgemental and indifferent ones... they've not got a hundreth of the soul whitney had..

okay! peace n' music, sweetness!

David P. said...

yeah.. meee again... (another commercial)...

was watching a pre-grammy show... tony bennet saying whitney had the most beautiful voice he's ever heard.....

that says more than any indifferent/negative commenter could say if he/she wrote volumes on his/her 'point-of-view'...

Kae B said...

*chuckles* That's not very charitable, David! :)

Kae B said...

It seems to me that that is where we should all be focusing our attention, if we wish to focus on her at all. Her voice represented her. I for one, as a singer of sorts, wish I could work it like she did!

David P. said...

i'm charitable.... but if folks are being crude/negative/judgemental, i think i'll show my charity to those more deserving..

I didn't post on Whitney Houston because so many others had it covered already. I also have no evidence of a "troubled life" so it all went in one ear and out the other .. basically.

Lemme listen to Lemmy.

I did tell one guy to put on his big boy pants and go to work ... seemed like he might have been whining about wanting a day off over it ... LOL ... but I was pulling his leg.

back... another commercial...

so to pick up on this 'charitable' topic... yesterday, in car, had the right of way, but in no hurry, so i let three cars out of the parking lot... first two didn't bother with a wave or smile, so i just shrugged it off... third car driver smiled/waved... a minute later we're at a stop light, she's got her window down... i said, 'thanks for doing the 'basic' smile/wave'... she said, 'but of course!'...

point being, if i met 'em all at the park, i'd talk to the third driver, and wouldn't bother with the other two... that's not being uncharitable, that's just appreciating appreciation ...

okaaaay, seeeeee (((you)))!

Kae B said...

True...but I'm trying to keep a quiet place here. :)

?
<- not riling things up.. certainly not trying to...

simply saying that the sour/judgemental comments you've been coming across are not worth getting caught up in... if it gets 'intense' and upsetting to try and talk to such folks, let 'em be.. it's like trying to talk mandarin to a hindi... or well... you know what i mean...

keep the peace, yes...

Kae B said...

I know you're not, love! :) Just don't want anyone else to find an excuse to!

Thomas (Tom) Jefferson Thompson said...

I'm not sure I understand what you mean....she had a terrific voice, but her life was not really all that important to me....as mine was not all that much to her I suppose.....

Kae B said...

There have been a number of notes/blogs here and elsewhere today, Tom, in which people have voiced their disgust with her because of her drug abuse, and have been, in my opinion, mean-spirited. I am merely pointing out that even in their naysaying and negativity, they are still remembering the very person they are choosing to denigrate. And in the end, why should anyone be mean about her life, when we ALL have something to be ashamed of, some flaw in our characters that we hope no one will harp on when we die?

That's all...

A talented lady with a sad ending Kae but so many others have gone the same way.

Kae B said...

Sadly, yes.

I'm looking forward to Jennifer Hudson singing her song. Hope she can get through it. I'm in agreement with the statement "so many others have gone the same way." It's sad for her daughter who needed her.

My only issue I think is that she did have a problem and I do think she should be remembered for her amazing contributions to the music industry, but my facebook blew up when the news hit. I just feel like where are we with raising awareness about drug abuse and depression? AND, even raising awareness isn't enough. How do we help them?

Having a son who struggles with all of these issues and fighting the system for help, this is my gripe! I guess I just feel a sadness because she is one of MANY who we've lost, and I'm not talking about the many in the public eye. I mean the ones who leave us without a care from the world. It makes me sad.

Kae B said...

Another worthy question, Chey, which very few are quick to raise, because that doesn't get as many hits as badmouthing a celebrity does!

chey c said...

I can't imagine people badmouthing wow!

Have to say, I love that the Grammys are remembering everyone who died this past year. AND not all just the performers. Very classy!!

Kae B said...

Yes, I just watched it! Beautiful!

Like I have said on the few blogs I visited where people were indifferent, mean-spirited and had no compassion...seems a lot thought that because she had a struggle with addictions and was rich she and her loved ones didn't deserve any sympathy

Too bad they have no regard for a fellow human being

Kae B said...

...or worse, Cassie, perhaps they think that only those who are not wealthy and famous deserve such regard.

At the end of the day, we are all human, eh?

I was with a group of friends of mixed ages when one got a txt of her death. With disbelief, they turned on their laptop and checked the news sites and such to see if it were true. Well, though admittedly I hadn't thought of the woman in I don't know how long, she did have a lovely voice and I immediately thought of her songs and some of the videos she put out in the 80's, and I remembered her in the Bodyguard movie too. Wasn't I surprized when another fellow in the room said he could not place who she was at all. This young man is in his 20s. So, the one with the laptop put on a few of her vids and the unknowing one said "Well, I knew she was a singer, and I Thought she was black, but that's all" He still didn't recognize the songs... until we got to the one Dolly Parton had sung first, and only then did he recognize it b/c of Dolly, not Witney. Oh.

Kae B said...

She was either well known for her voice or not, Crystal. And those of us who enjoyed her talent will miss it, as we had been over the last few years before her death.

Crystal Dreamer said...

I wouldn't say I've missed her over the last few years, though I can appreciate her talent, and occassionally would hear one of her songs come up on the radio. Luckily, we can still enjoy those she made. They were beautiful.

Kae B said...

Indeed, Crystal! :)

One of the things I did get to watch while away was Piers morgan on CNN interviewing one of her producers and a friend/colleague as well and trying to ascertain whom to blame in true British tabloid editorial style. They both said it wa sultimately down to her how she chose to live her life.
