Dum-diddly-yum...

...idiom fun!  See if you can figure out what these mean without looking them up online.  And then, if you can, share some you like from your culture.  I'd love to read them!

1.  Enough is as good as a feast.

2.  A change is as good as a rest.

3.  You can't see the wood for the trees.

4.  You're as much use as a wet fart in a thunderstorm.

5.  Better untaught than ill taught.

6.  That's a horse of a different color.

7.  A penny saved is a penny earned.

8.  He can't cut the mustard.

9.  That was a flash in the pan.

10. We're all going to hell in a handbasket.

Idioms are more than just words, aren't they?  Reminds me of this song, which I love so much...

I only know the origin of #9. I actually have several pictures of such. Although, I have heard and used several of these. I just laughed to tears over #4!!

That one and Wonderful Tonight. He would actually play them on the guitar ... and yeah, he was.

Here's a Jamaican saying, in the dialect and translated, with its meaning.

"Chicken merry, hawk deh near." ~ When the chickens are happy, the hawk is close by.
Danger is often looming when you're having fun.

Hmmm very interesting ... I like that!

I'm having fun ... I'm getting older, so it doesn't take so much to make me happy ... a few oldies, singing, and I'm all smiles. lol. The difference between me now and me 20 years ago? I'm loving myself a whole lot more flaws and all ;) ...

I don't know but they are great! The meanings of them have changed over the years. I was reading an article the other day talking about some of orgins and how they are used today. Should have bookmarked it lol.

I love it when people mix em up... like my dad used to say.."You're barking up the wrong pole." which is a mix of the dog and tree one, and 'up the pole'

Put a sock in it,
and
To steal someone's thunder
are two of my favs...oh, and 'It takes two to tango' :)

I love this one, too! :)
